{"id":29525,"date":"2016-08-06T08:40:34","date_gmt":"2016-08-06T06:40:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=29525"},"modified":"2016-08-06T08:40:34","modified_gmt":"2016-08-06T06:40:34","slug":"acb-boss-in-meras-contract-scandal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/08\/06\/acb-boss-in-meras-contract-scandal\/","title":{"rendered":"ACB boss in Mera\u2019s contract scandal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (Mera) Chief Executive Officer Ralph Kamoto has accused Anti- Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director Lucas Kondowe of forcing him to award a K6.8 billion contract to build the body&#8217;s headquarters in Lilongwe to a company that failed in the bid.<\/p>\n<p>But the ACB boss has dismissed Komoto&#8217;s allegations, arguing that the Bureau is aware of its mandate under the law.<\/p>\n<p>Kamoto has since reported Kondowe to the Attorney General Kalekeni Kaphale claiming harassment and that what the ACB boss was trying to get from Mera was &#8220;corruption of the highest order and abuse of his office&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Kamoto also told Kaphale that Kondowe threatened to put the project into a &#8220;neutral gear&#8221; if Mera does not give the contract to Sogecoa Anhui Construction Company although Mera&#8217;s Internal Procurement Committee selected Terrastone Limited at its meeting on April 4 2016.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (Mera) Chief Executive Officer Ralph Kamoto has accused Anti- Corruption Bureau (ACB) Director Lucas Kondowe of forcing him to award a K6.8 billion contract to build the body&#8217;s headquarters in Lilongwe to a company that failed in the bid.
