{"id":29421,"date":"2016-08-04T12:06:58","date_gmt":"2016-08-04T10:06:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=29421"},"modified":"2016-08-04T12:29:32","modified_gmt":"2016-08-04T10:29:32","slug":"flames-boosted","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/08\/04\/flames-boosted\/","title":{"rendered":"Flames boosted"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FDH Bank on Wednesday signed a three-year K90 million sponsorship agreement with Football Association of Malawi (Fam), which has since earmarked the money for the Malawi National Football Team, the Flames\u2019 assignments.<\/p>\n<p>FDH Managing Director, Eric Outtara, unveiled the sponsorship at Fam\u2019s Mpira Village in Blantyre, saying the bank was determined to contribute towards the improvement of domestic football standards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we expect is for Malawi football to be more successful at the national team and club level. That is our dream. Football is part of Malawians\u2019 lives and we want to participate in the lives of Malawians,\u201d the Ivorian said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe sponsorship is K30 million per annum for the next three years and is subject to renewal. More details about the sponsorship will be announced later. We hope that the sponsorship will be a motivation to those who are at the centre of the action\u2014the players.<\/p>\n<p>In response, Fam President, Walter Nyamilandu, said the money would be channeled towards the Flames\u2019 dead-rubber 2017 Africa Cup of Nations Group L qualifier against Swaziland at Kamuzu Stadium early next month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLooking at the sponsorship meltdown, at least, today we can breathe a sigh of relief. We have experienced reduced sponsorship for the national team, hence this is timely. It guarantees that the team will play its last match against Swaziland,\u201d Nyamilandu said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNext year, we also intend to participate in the African Nations Championship (Chan) and the next Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. It was difficult confirming participation, but now all is good. We will come up with a business model to make sure that this [the sponsorship] should be a win-win situation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>FDH is the second sponsor to come on board after Fam lost Standard Bank Malawi financial support early this year.<\/p>\n<p>Foundation for Irrigation and Sustainable Development (Fisd) and Carlsberg Malawi are also national cup sponsors.
