{"id":29372,"date":"2016-08-04T10:48:25","date_gmt":"2016-08-04T08:48:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=29372"},"modified":"2016-08-04T10:48:26","modified_gmt":"2016-08-04T08:48:26","slug":"darts-trials-underway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/08\/04\/darts-trials-underway\/","title":{"rendered":"Darts trials underway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Darts Association of Malawi (Dam) held three-day national trials at Chancellor College in Zomba from July 16.<\/p>\n<p>The association hosted the trials to scout for national team players ahead of a week-long African Union Region Five Darts Championship to be held in Zambia from August 21.<\/p>\n<p>Dam Tournament Director, Charles Katola, said the trials attracted 130 players such as Austin Chingagwe, Atany Kaipa, Simeon Kaonga, Oswin Banda, Marcel Kasambala, James Mbando, Steve Mnjere and Chipiliro Mzanda.<\/p>\n<p>There were also female players such as Angella Zimba, Diovanna Surtee, Alice Shawa, Emmie Chinyumba, Esnati Chirwa, Memory Katema, Lucy Zalira and Rabecca Changwa.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe trials were done at the regional level first and attracted players from all clubs in the four regions,\u201d Katola said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEach region was requested to select top-eight men, six-top women, three-top juniors\u2019 men and three-top juniors\u2019 women and three-top men veterans and three-top women veterans. Ex-national team players were seeded from regional trials.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The trials were tough with well-known players such as Joe Zangazanga, Mzanda, Talimba Pazadi, Rabecca Mwale and Virginia da Silva failing to make the grade.<\/p>\n<p>New players that have made it include Oswin Banda and up-and-coming Simeon Kaonga.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Darts Association of Malawi (Dam) held three-day national trials at Chancellor College in Zomba from July 16.
