{"id":29337,"date":"2016-08-03T12:05:49","date_gmt":"2016-08-03T10:05:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=29337"},"modified":"2016-08-03T12:05:50","modified_gmt":"2016-08-03T10:05:50","slug":"peter-mutharika-to-meet-university-students-union-leaders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/08\/03\/peter-mutharika-to-meet-university-students-union-leaders\/","title":{"rendered":"Peter Mutharika to meet university students union leaders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Peter Mutharika has agreed to meet public universities students leaders over the University of Malawi Council\u2019s decision to hike tuition fees for the public universities.<\/p>\n<p>According to a State House press release, Mutharika will meet the students\u2019 leaders on Thursday at Kamuzu Palace in the afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe President has accepted to meet the student unions leaders and it has since pleased him to grant the students audience in his capacity as Chancellor of the Public Universities,\u201d reads the statement signed by Press Secretary, Mgeme Kalilani.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, the student leaders of Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (Luanar), Mzuzu University and Malawi University of Science and Technology (Must) delivered a petition to the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) requesting to meet Mutharika who is also Chancellor of Unima by Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Luanar Students\u2019 Union President, Peter Mbweza, who delivered the petition, said on Tuesday the students were happy with the development as it will give the leaders a chance to discuss with him their worries on the recently hiked fees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are very happy that the President has listened to our call to meet him.
