Government has admitted that the Department of Road Traffic and Safety Services (DRTSS) is experiencing a lot of problems because of inadequate staff and system challenges.<\/p>\n
Minister of Transport and Public Works, Malison Ndau, made the observation on Thursday after paying an impromptu visit to DRTSS in Blantyre.<\/p>\n
He said although he was impressed by performance of the staff, technical problems were compromising service delivery, prompting some clients to conclude that the government has failed.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have plans to open other offices in Mzuzu, Zomba and Mangochi and these offices will be dealing with the issuance of Certificates of Fitness (COF) in a bid to improve service delivery. However, success will hinge on cooperation between the staff and clients who should appreciate our problems,\u201d Ndau said.<\/p>\n
Speaking earlier, acting Regional Road Traffic Officer, Christopher Kuyera, asked the government to, among other things, increase the number of stations to take care of motor vehicle requirements.<\/p>\n
He also asked the government to train more local technical staff examiners to replace an expatriate who will be going back home after expiry of his contract.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe would like to have as many local technical staff as possible as we might be stranded after the expiry of the contract of the expatriate. Initially, we used to issue 200 certificates a day but with the coming in of the new system, we issue 100 certificates per day, making it difficult to serve the customers sufficiently,\u201d Kuyera said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
