Airtel Malawi on Wednesday donated 416 text books to Chisu Community Day Secondary School in Nkhata Bay, as one way of fulfilling its corporate social responsibility.<\/p>\n
Airtel\u2019s Zone Manger for the Northern Region, Gerlad Kanthungo, said in a post-event interview that the company values knowledge and further acknowledges the challenges that the education sector is going through.<\/p>\n
According to Kanthungo, availability of resources is very critical in uplifting education standards in the country, hence the gesture.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a responsible corporate citizen, Airtel will always do the best to invest in the education sector. We would like to contribute to reducing illiteracy levels in Malawi because we are aware that a literate nation is a progressive nation,\u201d said Kanthungo.<\/p>\n
He added: \u201cEducation is a tool that opens endless opportunities, and school children from rural areas like these equally deserve such opportunities hence our support in their pursuit of knowledge.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to Kanthungo, the education sector requires collective effort and partnerships to enable children of Malawi acquire quality knowledge which will be of use in the future.<\/p>\n
Headmaster of the school Godfrey Ngwira was all smiles, saying the donation was well timed.<\/p>\n
