Malawi team of eight athletes and three officials left for Mozambique on Wednesday to participate in this year\u2019s African Union (AU) Games in Maputo.<\/p>\n
The team comprises Harry Sichali and Doris Fisher in the full\u2013marathon category while veterans, Rodwell Kamwendo and Nancy Matanda, will compete in half-marathon.<\/p>\n
Cecilia Mhango and Frank Chitembeya Jnr will represent Malawi in the 400 metres category, whereas Prisca Kachala and Alinafe Pula will compete in the same category, but on what is called \u2018Special Olympics\u201d.<\/p>\n
The runners had camp training for a week at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre under coach Dennis Phiri.<\/p>\n
Athletics Association of Malawi General Secretary, Frank Chitembeya Snr, said the competitors were in good shape.<\/p>\n
Team leader, Isaac Phiri, said overall, the athletes prepared for the event for a year.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou may wish to know that these athletes have been participating in various competitions and are fully-geared to shine in Mozambique,\u201d<\/p>\n
Phiri explained.<\/p>\n
