I have seen from today’s exhibition that our youths are very creative and innovative. One of the challenges that we are facing is that we don’t have markets for them where they can sell their products,” she said.

Chiumia also said coping foreign cultures is also becoming a challenge in the country as it is killing Malawian culture.

“We have seen that due to technology a lot of our youths are absorbing foreign culture. I would therefore like to urge the youth of this

country to continue preserving our culture,” she said.

Egyptian Ambassador Maher EL Adaway said he was looking forward to Malawians particularly the cultural troupe to visit his country.

“This is the second time that Egypt is doing a cultural week in Malawi. What I want is to encourage the government and the people of Malawi to come to one of our cultural programmes in Egypt. We want to do this. Egyptians, who have come to Malawi have showcased a little bit of our culture but I also want Malawian artists to come to Egypt and do the same,” he said.

Several Malawian and Egyptian artistic works were showcased during the exhibition.

Aside the exhibition, a commemoration of the China/Malawi 60 years of relationship was also conducted.

This is a second event in commemoration of the second Egyptian Cultural Week in Malawi which started on July 17 and is expected to end Tuesday.

Minister of Sports and Culture Grace Chiumia has said an availability of markets for artworks in the country hinders local artists from blossoming in their businesses.
