I was surprised how they withdrew the cash and I went to the bank to verify. I was shocked to realise that the transaction was made and I reported the matter to police. We are yet to hear the investigations outcome,” Tembo said.

Following the incident, the parish minister suspended three people including some church elders and the station that had over 150 church members was disbanded.

Malawi News has seen the letters which indicate that the station which was under Johannesburg Central Congregation exchanged memos with their lawyers over the matter.

However, Reverend Mnthali and the Session Clerk both ignored our questions after we introduced the topic.

When asked for the comment on the matter Livingstonia Synod General Secretary Reverend Levi Nyondo said he was not aware of the said disagreements within the church in South Africa.

But when pressed that he went to South Africa with the synod’s Moderator Reverend Douglas Chipofya to resolve the issues, Nyondo said the matter was not on the agenda.

“I don’t know anything of such issues with Reverend Mnthali. How can we know things that are happening in South Africa? Who told you that? Never ask me anything on the matter.
