Mobile network operator Telekom Networks Malawi (TNM) has given out 500 reflector clothes to Balaka bicycle taxi (kabaza) operators in a move that seeks to reduce road accidents in the town.<\/p>\n
This was one of the activities on the sidelines of the opening of a TNM service centre at the boma.<\/p>\n
Alfred Saidi, vice chair of Balaka Bicycle Taxi Operators Association, said the operators were failing to buy reflectors on their own.<\/p>\n
“Road accidents caused by bicycle taxi operators have been on the increase and one of the reasons has been lack of visibility at night due to the fact that we did not have reflectors,” Saidi said.<\/p>\n
He commended TNM for the timely gesture.<\/p>\n
Balaka District Commissioner, Roderick Mateauma, hailed TNM for timely business decision to set up shop in Balaka and contribute towards prevention of road accidents by donating the 500 reflectors.<\/p>\n
Speaking during the opening of the shop, Daniel Makata, TNM chief commercial officer, said the opening of the facility underscores TNM\u2019s commitment to continually invest in the ICT sector of the country.<\/p>\n
“The new shop provides more space and therefore increases our customer care touch points. We are always thriving to improving the customer experience through provision of a customer-friendly and centric environment by bringing services closer to our valued customers,” Makata said.<\/p>\n
He said the shop will support Balaka with its mobile and ICT needs and those of travelers.<\/p>\n
Balaka district has over 500 registered bicycle taxi operators who contribute about 2 percent of Balaka District Council’s total revenue through a K500 monthly levy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
