Cancer Survivors Quest (CSQ) has joined an initiative aimed at fundraising for a Mini Me Montessori School teacher, Sandra Rebello, who was diagnosed with cervical cancer two months ago.<\/p>\n
CSQ is an organisation that is working with cancer patients and some of its key figures will be in attendance during a dinner and dance set for Mini Me Montessori School on Saturday evening.<\/p>\n
Mini Me Montessori Director, Marcela Lobo, who is championing the exercise, said the presence of CSQ will assist in motivating patrons to get an insight of what cancer is.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe motivational speakers are there to impact lives of people with cancer and help with tips regarding on how to help cancer patients, not only patients but even people that have family members that are fighting cancer.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe patrons will benefit by attending and making a difference with cancer patients and saving a life or more,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Lobo, who is also the Chairperson of Living in Faith Everyday (Life) said they plan to raise about K5 million to enable the patient travel to Lusaka, Zambia for treatment.<\/p>\n
\u201cCervical cancer is curable only with radiotherapy with a high success rate. Radiotherapy is currently not available in Malawi but it is only available in India, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia. It is with this development that her family has opted to travel to Zambia to seek treatment pegged at $6,500 all inclusive,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Lobo said on June 25 her institution, Mini Me Montessori, organised a funfair where K500, 000 was raised towards medical bills.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is with this regard that we are hosting a ladies\u2019 dinner and dance on Saturday with cancer awareness speakers and survivors narrating their experiences.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur request to the government is to try and get radiotherapy machine in Malawi and save more lives especially for those that can\u2019t afford to go abroad for treatment,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Some of the members of Life including Cherlyn Phillips, Amanda Fernoughty, Victoria Lobo, Cerise Mitchell, Talimba Gomile and Heike Hartmann have hailed the involvement of CSQ.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe support of Cancer Survivor Quest an d motivational speakers has obvious one reason: to inform, to encourage, show that it is possible to fight and survive cancer when we stand together. And in Malawi it\u2019s even more important as it shows the health system is not prepared to give the treatment within the country,\u201d Phillips said.<\/p>\n
To generate funds tables are being sold to the corporate industry with a golden one costing K150, 000, silver is at K130, 000 while entrance is at K15,000. Grand raffle tickets will be sold at K2, 000 with cancer ribbons costing K500 each.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Rebello has thanked the organisations for teaming to drum up support.<\/p>\n
