{"id":28382,"date":"2016-07-20T12:21:00","date_gmt":"2016-07-20T10:21:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=28382"},"modified":"2016-07-20T12:21:00","modified_gmt":"2016-07-20T10:21:00","slug":"local-hockey-teams-humbled","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/07\/20\/local-hockey-teams-humbled\/","title":{"rendered":"Local hockey teams humbled"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Zambian hockey side, Lusaka Sharks, left Malawi with their heads held high after beating four Malawian teams in the men\u2019s and women\u2019s categories.<\/p>\n<p>The two-day tournament, which ended on Sunday, was held at the Hockey Stadium (formerly Upper Stadium) near the Kamuzu Stadium.<\/p>\n<p>In the men\u2019s category, Sharks finished with 12 points after winning all four games.<\/p>\n<p>Malawi\u2019s top side, Genetrix, finished on second position with six points, whereas Nyala ended on third place with the same number of points.<\/p>\n<p>Scorpions ended on fourth place with three points while Braves anchored the table with the same number of points.<\/p>\n<p>In the ladies\u2019 category, Lusaka Sharks finished with nine points, three ahead of a local select side comprising players from Nyala, Scorpions and Simba.<\/p>\n<p>Genetrix were third with three points, whereas Braves finished at the bottom.<\/p>\n<p>Lusaka Sharks senior women\u2019s player, Esther Mwale, said Malawi has hockey potential.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey need to improve their fitness and technical understanding of the game. They also need to develop infrastructure. On our part, we struggled a bit because we are not used to a grass surface,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Genetrix senior player, Geoffrey Biya, said they learnt a lot from the Zambians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSharks won the tournament but we gave them a good run for their money.
