{"id":28343,"date":"2016-07-19T13:24:35","date_gmt":"2016-07-19T11:24:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=28343"},"modified":"2016-07-19T13:28:28","modified_gmt":"2016-07-19T11:28:28","slug":"three-companies-join-malawi-gan-network","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/07\/19\/three-companies-join-malawi-gan-network\/","title":{"rendered":"Three companies join Malawi Gan network"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Maldeco Fisheries, Chibuku Products Limited and Carlsberg Breweries have become the latest private sector companies to join the Malawi Global Apprenticeship Network, a coalition of companies committed to ending youth unemployment and skills mismatch.<\/p>\n<p>Stansfield Motors became the first member to join the network in May after kick-off meetings to mark the start of the network\u2019s operations in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Malawi is the first country in Africa to establish a Gan network.<\/p>\n<p>The network provides employers with an opportunity to advocate for conducive environment to accommodate young people in different organisations to give them necessary skills for employability.<\/p>\n<p>Announcing their membership to the network, the companies said the Gan network is an important platform for companies to share best practices, advocate and commit to action around youth employability and skills development.<\/p>\n<p>The Malawi Gan network seeks to promote technical and vocational careers, an entrepreneurial culture and career guidance among youth as well as creating a conducive legal and regulatory environment for employers to implement work readiness programmes and strengthening the interface between training institutions and companies to bridge skills gap.<\/p>\n<p>The Employers Consultative Association of Malawi (Ecam) is the local representative of the Gan network in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Ecam will work hand in hand with the Gan to put in place a platform that can contribute to the fight to end youth unemployment and promote business skills for them.<\/p>\n<p>In 2015, Gan national networks were launched in Turkey, Indonesia, Spain and Argentina, the initiative is driven by business leaders, who use these global platforms to promote apprenticeship and internship programmes worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>The International Labour Organisation says the emphasis by employers to find candidates with the right skills or experience to fill job vacancies without themselves offering training to match the job requirements has aggravated the skills mismatch in most countries in sub-Saharan Africa.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Maldeco Fisheries, Chibuku Products Limited and Carlsberg Breweries have become the latest private sector companies to join the Malawi Global Apprenticeship Network, a coalition of companies committed to ending youth unemployment and skills mismatch.
