It is imperative to note that everything around us that we call life was made up by people that are no smarter than us. They were people with weaknesses and not hearts of steel but what made them achieve was their ability to see their distinctive difference and soldier on despite all setbacks encountered along the way.

Les Brown was right, you do not get in life what you want, you get in life what you are. One critical element we normally lose in life is the belief that we have the ability to do things that we cannot even begin to imagine. What takes us back from the promised land of success is doubts and sometimes how other people judge us and perceive us. And as we try to live in accordance with their vision, we lose sight of the elements that give us fulfillment.

The greatness we have in us comprises those small things that give us a sense of fulfillment every time we do them. If one feels fulfillment when cracking jokes, then certainly such a person has the greatness to become a world-class artist and move people’s jaws with laughter. Success and greatness comes to light whenever one develops whatever gives him or her a sense of fulfillment. It is appropriate never to mind the inner conversations of how one will achieve. Passion and courage are the magnets of success. Keep on going and the greatness will bloom to light.

The greatness within us comes to people’s attention and recognition if we take the necessary steps never to give up. Brown teaches again, let us keep it real. If it were easy, everybody would do it.

The critical factor to note in life is that it does not matter whatever happened to you. The only thing that matters is how you are going to do about it. As long as you wake up every morning, it entails that such is an opportunity to work on your greatness. Pains of the past are stepping stones to success.

Consider the rags-to-riches life of a Korean reality TV star Choi Sung-Bong. He was left by his parents in orphanage at the age of three. He ran away at the age of five as he was being bullied. For the next 10 years, he lived on the street selling gums or energy drinks. He slept in a container box and on stairwells and public toilets.

But it was such a young man with such a despicable underprivileged background that moved the audience and judges at the Korea has Talent reality show into tears. Choi told them he liked music not because he enjoyed it but that when he sung, he felt like he was a different person. Choi points out: “There was only one thing that gave me comfort. It was music, not people.”

Choi realised that the greatness in him was his voice and that mattered most than the dayfly-like life he was living. He scooped position two at the reality show and that made him a world star and changed the fortunes of his life.

The world’s celebrated Nick Vujicic, the man without arms and legs, strongly points out that who you are is valuable, whether you are rich or poor, beautiful or not, handsome or not. You are beautiful just the way you are. He goes on to lecture that do not believe in the lies of the truth of your values to be devalued and that only you and you alone can be your greatest discourager.

To realise the greatness in us, we need to be thankful of what we have. We do not need to waste time complaining of what we do not have. We become what we are. The greatness in us is well manifested in our ability to know that you cannot achieve until when you try. We have to keep on trying more. All innovations that marvel us today were as a result of countless trying, failing and trying again. The greatest point in life is that when you fail, try again. In the words of Vujicic, failure equals education.

The greatness in us all is immeasurable and only awaits we ourselves to realise it and move towards stardom. More than often we have been suppressing our greatness as what others say about us has been pulling us back. Never, and the point is, never let someone opinion of you become your reality. You are great and only you can limit the furthest you can go in pursuit of your dreams. Of course, it will not be easy. But the harder, the battle, the sweeter the victory.

One inalienable fact with life is that all people are unique and are all destined for greatness.
