{"id":27678,"date":"2016-07-08T12:19:16","date_gmt":"2016-07-08T10:19:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=27678"},"modified":"2016-07-08T12:19:16","modified_gmt":"2016-07-08T10:19:16","slug":"ccjp-wants-extended-njauju-murder-probe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/07\/08\/ccjp-wants-extended-njauju-murder-probe\/","title":{"rendered":"CCJP wants extended Njauju murder probe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) has called for an extended probe into the murder of Issa Njauju who until his death was Director of Administration at the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).<\/p>\n<p>National Police spokesperson (PRO) Nicholas Gondwa in an earlier interview said police are having difficulties in their investigations because the killers seem to have been very sophisticated.<\/p>\n<p>But in an interview yesterday, CCJP National Secretary Martin Chiphwanya said the fight against corruption is being dented by the police\u2019s failure to decisively conclude investigations into Njauju\u2019s murder.<\/p>\n<p>Chiphwanya said if the police are genuine in their claims that they are having challenges in their investigations, they should consider getting help from their colleagues within the Sadc region.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know that investigation agencies in the region can work together where necessary and I think this is one issue which needs such an approach.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is very disheartening that a year after the brutal murder of Mr Njauju, we still don\u2019t have answers. People continue asking questions and now that the police have admitted that they are having problems, that is even more worrying,\u201d said Chiphwanya.<\/p>\n<p>Chief State Advocate in the Ministry of Justice, Pacharo Kayira, told the 58th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and People\u2019s Rights in the Gambia early April that justice would prevail on Njauju\u2019s and Robert Chasowa\u2019s murders.<\/p>\n<p>Chasowa was murdered at The Polytechnic in 2011 and while arrests were made in connection to the incident, there has been no progress on the case, a thing that has prompted various quarters to fault government for apparently not showing interest to ensure justice prevails.<\/p>\n<p>At the meeting, Executive Director of the Centre for the Development of People (Cedep) Gift Trapence accused government of not showing commitment to address issues surrounding the deaths of Njauju and Chasowa.<\/p>\n<p>And Chiphwanya said government must clear all the suspicions on Njauju\u2019s murder so that workers at ACB should also feel safe and continue busting corruption.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace (CCJP) has called for an extended probe into the murder of Issa Njauju who until his death was Director of Administration at the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
