Wanderers are placed 11 points behind leaders, Blue Eagles.

For Max Bullets, it is all looking gloomy. They are the only winless team in the league this season having played 12 games, collecting a paltry four points. It is getting scary.

On this cold afternoon, Zakazaka nodded in the opener in the 44th minute before Chande added the second within five minutes of his second-half introduction. It was Wanderers’ second win over the rookies in two weeks.

Chande, who has been a darling of controversies since his switch from rivals Nyasa Big Bullets, finished off goalkeeper Sipho Machetso’s spilled ball from the initial Amos Bello’s low drive in the 59th minute.

Despite missing key striker Peter Wadabwa, the Nomads controlled the game from start to finish. Bello played well upfront, Rafik Mussa and Rafik Namwela kept the midfield heartbeat ticking and Isaac Kaliyati offered the attacking width.

When Zakazaka shot wide after Bello had picked him with a sliced ball in the box, Max Bullets sensed danger. With team owner Max Kapanda sitting on the technical bench, coach Trevor Kajawa pulled out Robson Banda for Yamikani Osman to tighten the midfield.

The Nomads were still lively going forward. A long diagonal ball sprayed across the pitch from right to left to find Kaliyati who lost his marker with a bouncing header only for him to send his shot over the bar.

Finally, Zakazaka put the Nomads ahead with a simple nod from a rebound after Bello’s initial header from Kaliyati’s corner-kick had bounced off the frame.

When Wanderers re-appeared from the dressing room while carrying a slender 1-0 lead, Max Bullets responded by bowing their heads to pray while lining up, kneeling and holding arms along the goal-line.

But there was simply no salvation for Max Bullets. Chande replaced Zakazaka to score the insurance goal that warmed the hearts of the Nomads, including former captain Joseph Kamwendo, on a chilly afternoon.

Max Bullets’ striker Mayeso Mphanje did stretch goalkeeper Richard Chipuwa to the limit with set-pieces such as corner-kicks. Jacob Ngwira worked hard in midfied while winger Frank Kadam’manja showed promise, but overall, the rookies lacked a cutting edge in the final-third.

Smarting from last Saturday’s 0-1 loss in Mzuzu to Moyale Barracks in a Presidential Cup semifinal, Wanderers dished out their most comprehensive performance.

In a post-match interview, Kajawa accepted defeat, saying “We tried our best but we have to admit that Wanderers were better. We are getting there.
