Civo United executive committee summoned coach Millias Pofera on Monday over the Lilongwe team\u2019s dismal performance in the TNM Super League.<\/p>\n
Reports indicate that the lengthy meeting took place at Civo Club House in Area 9, Lilongwe.<\/p>\n
Since he took over as Civo coach, Pofera has won four games, drawn thrice and lost five to collect 16 points from 12 league games.<\/p>\n
Under Pofera, Civo also failed to reach even the Presidential Cup quarterfinals after losing to Chipiku Central Region Football Association Premier Division side, Masters Security Services United.<\/p>\n
Speaking after the meeting, Civo vice-General Secretary, Ronald Chiwaula, said several issues were tackled, including the team\u2019s 4-0 loss to Red Lions.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are concerned with these results and that is why we had a chance to call him and ask what is really going on. As a club, we have not changed our targets for him. He has told the executive committee what is happening and, of course, we will take that into consideration,\u201d Chiwaula explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cLook, building a team is not a one-year job. He is still young and we are not ready to fire him. There are still possibilities that we can still do better in the Super League and catch up with our counterparts who are fighting for the title.\u201d<\/p>\n
Pofera said he explained to the executive committee the reasons behind the team\u2019s struggles.<\/p>\n
\u201cI indicated to them that most of my first-choice players, such as Blessings Kawanga, Victor Mpinganjira and Blessings Phiri, are nursing injuries. Looking at the league log table, we are not yet out of the championship race. I believe if we can win three or four games, we can make it,\u201d he insisted.<\/p>\n
Civo United were crowned Standard Bank Cup champions last year before firing Oscar Kaunda for lacking Caf B-Licence, which is a minimum qualification for Super League coaches under Club Licensing System.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
