{"id":27559,"date":"2016-07-07T11:30:46","date_gmt":"2016-07-07T09:30:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=27559"},"modified":"2016-07-07T11:30:46","modified_gmt":"2016-07-07T09:30:46","slug":"white-elephant-rescues-crcl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/07\/07\/white-elephant-rescues-crcl\/","title":{"rendered":"White Elephant rescues CRCL"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After five years in the doldrums, Central Region Chess League has finally clinched sponsorship, thanks to White Elephant Group.<\/p>\n<p>The Likuni-based, White Elephant Group, which runs a Sports Bar Caf\u00e9 and other event management, has offered the club a K1 million sponsorship.<\/p>\n<p>White Elephant Operations Manager, Patrick Chaponda, described the partnership as the first step that will change chess landscape in Malawi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have started with K1 million, and this is just the beginning. We will provide chess sets and clocks and, if CRCL runs the league well, we are willing to increase the purse next season,\u201d Chaponda said.<\/p>\n<p>CRCL Treasurer, James Sangala (not the footballer), thanked White Elephant for the timely sponsorship, which coincides with CRCL\u2019s objective of expanding the league beyond Lilongwe.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is interesting that we have been offered this sponsorship at a time when we have just finished registering teams in Dowa, Kasungu, Nkhota-kota and Salima.
