Thyolo North Member of Parliament, Edmans Kaduya, has called people in the country to actively participate in initiatives aimed at improving the livelihoods of the elderly and children especially those living in rural areas.<\/p>\n
He made the call on Sunday after donating various items including Likuni Phala, shoes and clothes towards initiatives aimed at taking care of children and the elderly at Chitengu, Thunga in Thyolo district.<\/p>\n
Kaduya said he made the donation to encourage communities in the country\u2019s rural areas to take responsibility for their children and elderly well being.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have a lot of children and the elderly in our communities who are facing various socio-economic challenges most of which can be addressed at community level, so this is one way of telling the people that we can make it possible for our children to undergo early childhood development education, we can take care of our elderly people among others,\u201d Kaduya said.<\/p>\n
He also said part of the donation has been targets early childhood initiatives in the area saying the initiatives are critical if Malawi is to build a strong prosperous future.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is evidence that children who undergo early childhood development centres have higher chances of doing well in education and proceeding to universities so we really need as a country to join hands in making sure that each and every child including those from rural areas attend these schools,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Earlier on, some traditional leaders in the area had voiced out concerns over continued underdevelopment in the area.<\/p>\n
Kaduya acknowledged the area\u2019s status but said he is living no stone unturned to ensure fair and equal distribution of resources in areas across the constituency.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne thing which is clear is that this constituency is big but I would like to assure you that the development projects we are implementing in various other areas within Thyolo north constituency will also be implemented here,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
