Medical Aid society of Malawi (Masm) has said acts of fraud have not spared the society affecting its operations.<\/p>\n
This was said on the sidelines of the 32nd Annual General Meeting held in Blantyre.<\/p>\n
Masm Chief Executive Officer Sydney Chikoti said just like most institutions in the country, the society is not spared in terms of acts of fraud.<\/p>\n
He said the society is working on addressing the issue; hence last year they introduced membership cards that have a photograph of the card holder.<\/p>\n
\u201cFraud is everywhere and our operations have been affected with such acts. However, as a society we are doing all we can to address the situation,\u201d said Chikoti.<\/p>\n
The society which posted a net surplus of K471 million against K579 million in the previous year, is also facing reduced membership numbers.<\/p>\n
Chikoti said the numbers declined due to the withdrawal of some donor partners in the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome of our members were under the donor community. When the donors withdrew their support, this also had an effect on our membership, but we are currently building it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Masm Deputy Chairperson Lowry Mbulo said despite the economic challenges the country has been going through, the society managed to post a good surplus.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis has resulted in strengthening of the society\u2019s balance sheet and has positioned it to strongly expand its footprint and augment capacity in the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe society shall continue to endeavour offering affordable medical aid to the majority in Malawi on a sustainable basis. We continued to pride ourselves in spending a significant amount of time with service providers to ensure that the efficiency of our service remains at the forefront of what differentiates Masm from the competitors,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
