Some Silver Strikers senior players have threatened to take unspecified action against the club over unpaid signing-on fees dating back to last season.<\/p>\n
The players summoned the club\u2019s executive committee on Friday at Silver Stadium to voice out their frustrations.<\/p>\n
In an interview yesterday, some Silver senior players confirmed that they were increasingly becoming frustrated by the club\u2019s reluctance to settle the arrears.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have made it clear that we need our money because some of us earn a living from football,\u201d said one of the players.<\/p>\n
Silver Acting General Secretary, Thabo Chakaka- Nyirenda, said the players got an assurance that they will be paid their dues.<\/p>\n
\u201cFirst and foremost, the matter is very minor arising from very slight misunderstandings. The matter has been sorted out. Blowing this out is tantamount to attempting to create a mountain out of a molehill. We just had a one-to-one meeting with each player to clarify certain contractual provisions,\u201d Chakaka-Nyirenda explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cI guess because the meeting took place during training, people mistook it for a boycott of training. The meeting is one of the routine ones. We will have many of them in future to appreciate the problems that players face.\u201d<\/p>\n
However, Chakaka- Nyirenda refused to disclose the actual amount the club owes the players, saying it is an internal matter.<\/p>\n
Reports suggest that the club owes the players an estimated K10 million.<\/p>\n
Some clubs, including Be Forward Wanderers and Nyasa Big Bullets, have not finalised paying signing-on fees.<\/p>\n
Silver are second on the log table with 23 points from 11 games in the TNM Super League.<\/p>\n
