{"id":26932,"date":"2016-06-27T11:19:08","date_gmt":"2016-06-27T09:19:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=26932"},"modified":"2016-06-27T11:19:08","modified_gmt":"2016-06-27T09:19:08","slug":"i-wont-apologise-to-dpp-bon-kalindo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/06\/27\/i-wont-apologise-to-dpp-bon-kalindo\/","title":{"rendered":"I won\u2019t apologise to DPP\u2014 Bon Kalindo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has accused Mulanje South Parliamentarian, Bon Kalindo, of putting the party in disrepute following the \u201cnaked\u201d demonstrations he led in Lilongwe last week.<\/p>\n<p>The demos were meant to implore Parliament to effect death sentence on those found guilty of killing people with albinism.<\/p>\n<p>Kalindo is reported to have been threatened and chased from a rally President Peter Mutharika held at Limbuli in Mulanje after some DPP members allegedly threatened to attack him.<\/p>\n<p>According to Kalindo, party cadets threatened to kill him at the rally and he was whisked away by the Police.<\/p>\n<p>But in an interview, DPP Secretary General Eckline Kudontoni said Kalindo\u2019s conduct on Thursday left a lot to be desired as a Member of Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>He also disputed claims by Kalindo that he is living in fear saying: \u201cHe is doing all this just to attract attention\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMuch as honourable Kalindo has the right to demonstrate, I want to bring to your attention that he (Kalindo) is our party\u2019s Deputy Publicity Secretary and knows our protocols so he cannot separate himself from the party,\u201d said Kudontoni.<\/p>\n<p>He, therefore, says what Kalindo did is an embarrassment not only to the party but to his constituents as well.<\/p>\n<p>Asked on whether the party prevents its members from voicing out opinions on national issues Kudontoni said party members have the right to opinion and expression.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBefore the demonstrations we had tried to advise him against going on with his decision but he went on to conduct them without even consulting us, so what we are saying is he has not handled himself and the whole issue well,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Kudontoni also blamed Kalindo for taking to the streets on an issue which President Peter Mutharika, who is also the ruling party\u2019s president, had already reacted to saying that was a breach on the party\u2019s protocol.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, Kalindo says he is in hiding but the party has dismissed the claim saying he is not under any threat.<\/p>\n<p>And in a separate interview, Kalindo said he will neither apologise nor does he regret his decision to hold the demonstrations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will not apologise and I don\u2019t regret doing what I thought was best for this country, the problem we have in this country is we politicise every issue including national issues like these,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has accused Mulanje South Parliamentarian, Bon Kalindo, of putting the party in disrepute following the \u201cnaked\u201d demonstrations he led in Lilongwe last week.
