People with albinism in Nkhotakota have pleaded with government and people championing campaigns against abductions and brutal killings of people with albinism not to focus security alone but also help meet other needs of albinos.<\/p>\n
Representative of people with albinism in Nkhotakota, Hamid Vasco, made the remarks on Saturday during a solidarity march organised by Nkhunga Police Station in Dwangwa.<\/p>\n
Vasco said as much attention is being paid to ensure that people with albinism are safe in this country, people should also appreciate that people with albinism face a lot of challenges to take care of their skin.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe commend how people have responded by condemning the killings, but we would like to call upon government and people of good will to help us so that as we are safe, we should also live a happy life. We have so many needs due to the condition of our skin like lotion that protects our skin from sun burn, sun glasses, long hats and long sleeves but most of us do not afford to buy these things,\u201d said Vasco.<\/p>\n
Vasco said the lotions that protect them from the sun are not locally found.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe lotions are mostly found in cities so it is not easy for people in rural areas to travel to towns to buy them. So, when fighting for our safety, people should also know that most of us do not live a happy life due to lack of these essential things,\u201d said Vasco.<\/p>\n
Officer-in-Charge at Nkhunga Police Station, Mcphein Gumbo, said they thought of organising the event in order to involve the public in the crackdown of the barbaric act.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs police we rely on the general public that makes our job easy so we held the solidarity walk so that we can sensitise people to stop the killings,\u201d said Gumbo.<\/p>\n
