Police in Machinga have arrested 43-year old Mary Gundo from Liwonde Township on suspicion that she enticed some two men to sell her bones believed to be of persons with albinism.<\/p>\n
The police have also nabbed 47-year-old Mussa Kachepa and 27-year-old Muhammed James on suspicion of being found with the bones.<\/p>\n
According to Machinga Police publicist, Davie Sulumba, investigations are still underway to establish whether the bones belonged to a person with albinism or leprosy.<\/p>\n
\u201cGundo approached the two suspects with a list of old currencies but at the end of the list were some acronyms. When she was asked about the acronyms, she revealed that those words meant bones of an albino or bones of a man with leprosy,\u201d added Sulumba<\/p>\n
He said the police were tipped off by Kachepa\u2019s wife who became suspicious of her husband\u2019s movements.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe wife saw the suspect bringing a travelling bag to his house. She said she was suspicious and asked the husband who refused to explain. The following day, the suspect took the bag to a nearby bush and buried it. The wife went, exhumed the bag to check what was inside and discovered that there were human bones,\u201d said Sulumba<\/p>\n
After being informed about the issue, police officers rushed to Kachepa\u2019s house and arrested him and the second suspect.<\/p>\n
The two men are currently in police custody and will reappear before court for their sentencing tomorrow while the woman is yet to appear before court.<\/p>\n
Kachepa hails from Koliha Village, James is from Karambo Village, both from Machinga district while Gundo comes from Kankawo Village, TA Nsamala in Balaka.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
