{"id":26728,"date":"2016-06-23T11:42:34","date_gmt":"2016-06-23T09:42:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=26728"},"modified":"2016-06-23T11:42:34","modified_gmt":"2016-06-23T09:42:34","slug":"386-ngos-register-with-ngo-board","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/06\/23\/386-ngos-register-with-ngo-board\/","title":{"rendered":"386 NGOs register with NGO Board"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One hundred and eleven nongovernmental organisations (NGOs) have registered with the NGO Board, bringing the total number of registered NGOs to 386 as of June 2016.<\/p>\n<p>This is according to the Deputy Chairperson of the NGO Board, Maziko Matemba, who in April 2016 issued a warning that all organisations that had not registered with the board would be deregistered by May 30.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIndeed recently NGO Board released a list of registered NGOs as per the NGO Act of Malawi Article 18, the response has been good where almost 386 have registered after the press release meaning 111 new registrants which is good news as the law demands for NGOs,\u201d said Matemba.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking earlier in Blantyre, Matemba said the purpose of the registration is to enhance transparency and accountability among NGOs and ensure that they are working within their mandate.<\/p>\n<p>When it was issuing the warning to deregister NGOs, the board only had 275 registered NGOs while 244 were unregistered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reaction from fellow NGOs has been very good considering the increase in registration as a good indicator it is a requirement by the laws of Malawi that we as NGOs have to follow all the time, considering also that most NGOs are going through economic challenges to source funding for operations,\u201d said Matemba.<\/p>\n<p>He further encouraged none registered NGOs to abide by the law and renew their memberships.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One hundred and eleven nongovernmental organisations (NGOs) have registered with the NGO Board, bringing the total number of registered NGOs to 386 as of June 2016.
