{"id":26675,"date":"2016-06-23T10:17:41","date_gmt":"2016-06-23T08:17:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=26675"},"modified":"2016-06-23T10:17:41","modified_gmt":"2016-06-23T08:17:41","slug":"sunbird-sand-music-fest-courts-sa-jamaican-artists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/06\/23\/sunbird-sand-music-fest-courts-sa-jamaican-artists\/","title":{"rendered":"Sunbird Sand Music Fest courts SA, Jamaican artists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The organisers of the Sunbird Sand Music Festival have revealed that they are courting Jamaican and South African artists.<\/p>\n<p>The festival will this year be held October 28 to October 30.<\/p>\n<p>However, Sand Music Director Lucius Banda said yesterday that they are yet to decide on the venue.<\/p>\n<p>The festival last year was held at Sunbird Livingstonia in Salima.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLast year we did well and set the bar having brought Jamaican artist Busy Signal and so, we want to maintain the same this year. What we are looking at is to make sure that people attend the festival from the first day to the last day,\u201d said Lucius.<\/p>\n<p>He observed that at the moment people do not embrace festivals fully as they normally leave before the end.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want our festival to be a three-day event and not a one day encounter. So far, I can confirm that two Jamaican artists will be performing at the festival and we are also talking to South African artists,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Lucius said they have made it deliberate that they have Jamaican and South African artists so that they can be placed on different days.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can have the artists sharing the days with one performing on Friday, another on Saturday and the other one on Sunday so that people enjoy every moment,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Lucius could not be drawn to reveal the identities of the two Jamaican and the South African artists.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do not want to break the news to the media at this time but we can only confirm that we are talking to Jamaican and South African artists. We are serious about what we are doing and I can assure people that we are doing our best to give them another exciting encounter this year,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Having also hosted other international acts in South Africa\u2019s Trademark featuring Zinhle Ngidi famed for the hit Shumaya and reggae singer Judy Boucher, Lucius said they will be holding another fundraising show on August 27.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need the fundraising events just to show that Sunbird Sand Music Festival is active. There is so much on the ground and let me take this opportunity to commend the corporate world for coming out to support us and there is that positive response from them once again this year,\u201d said the Sand Music Director.<\/p>\n<p>With Lake of Stars Festival moving from Sunbird Nkopola in Mangochi this year to Chintheche Inn in Nkhata Bay, some quarters have called for the organisers of Sunbird Sand Music Festival to consider hosting it in Mangochi this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would love that the festival goes to Mangochi but we have to discuss with our partners Sunbird Hotels, so for now we can\u2019t say much on the venue,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The organisers of the Sunbird Sand Music Festival have revealed that they are courting Jamaican and South African artists.
