The Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education Training Authority (Teveta) has appealed to businesses in the country to pay their Tevet Levy on time to avoid penalties.<\/p>\n
Teveta Director of Quality Assurance, Wilson Makulumiza Nkhoma, was speaking in Blantyre on Tuesday during a meeting his organisation held in conjunction with the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) to sensitise the business community on the importance of paying the levy.<\/p>\n
Late last year, Teveta handed over the task of collecting tevet levy to MRA as one way of facilitating easy payment.<\/p>\n
Makulumiza Nkhoma said Teveta has observed that some businesses still want to pay the levy through his organisation rather than MRA.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe noted that there was an information gap as some businesses were still calling us to pay their tevet levy. What we want to tell them is that that responsibility is now in the hands of MRA,\u201d said Makulumiza Nkhoma.<\/p>\n
He noted that the Tevet Levy, which is one percent of a firm\u2019s wage bill, is due at the end of every government\u2019s financial year, adding that failure to pay attracts a 20 percent penalty.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is our hope that businesses will pay the levy to avoid the penalties,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
MRA Deputy Director of Corporate Affairs, Steven Kapoloma, said paying the levy on time would help government improve skills development in the country.<\/p>\n
Kapoloma said his organisation has put in place all the necessary measures to ensure that businesses pay the tevet levy without any challenges.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
