The Malawi Electoral Commission (Mec) says it has started preparing for the 2019 polls by providing training to its staff to ensure smooth and credible electoral process.<\/p>\n
Mec Chairperson, Maxon Mbendera, made the remarks in Mulanje after opening a \u2018Train the Facilitator Bridge Course\u2019 for some of its members of staff.<\/p>\n
Mbendera said the training is of great importance as members of staff will at the end of the training be accredited as bridge facilitators who will also be training other electoral staff.<\/p>\n
Mbendera said in the run-up to 2014 polls, Mec had a problem running similar courses parallel to each other but this time they will find it easier especially since the training will help increase the number of facilitators.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs 2019 polls are fast approaching, we as Mec thought it wise to start the preparations as early as now to ensure everything is in place during the elections.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis training is a very fundamental one as it will equip our staff with skills that will help us as a commission to have credible elections,\u201d Mbendera said.<\/p>\n
Mbendera also took an opportunity to welcome newly appointed Mec commissioners and urged them to leave politics aside and serve the whole country and not just their political parties.<\/p>\n
The course is also being attended by delegates from Kenya and Zimbabwe which Mbendera said is very good as these will be able to share information and ideas on how to best achieve smooth and credible elections.<\/p>\n
The European Union Democratic Governance Programme (EUDGP) funded training course will run from June 15 to 27, 2016.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
