One of the country\u2019s business tycoons, Mark Katsonga Phiri, has urged Malawians to embrace and nurture talent instead of destroying it if Malawi is to develop economically.<\/p>\n
Katsonga, who is AGMA Chairperson, was speaking in Blantyre on Thursday night during the launch of two books by author Emmanuel Chinunda.<\/p>\n
The two books are \u2018Grappling with Change In Africa\u2019 and \u2018Dancing with Leadership Using African Indigenous Wisdom\u2019.<\/p>\n
Katsonga said talent has been the driving force behind the development of most countries in the West.<\/p>\n
\u201cUnfortunately, Malawi is not doing very well in as far as developing talent is concerned. We need to encourage talent. We must invest in it.<\/p>\n
\u201cA few decades ago, Malawi was at par with China in as far as economic development is concerned but our friend\u2019s embraced talent and they are now miles away from us.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are all where we are because of books. We need to encourage the young ones to read books,\u201d said Katsonga.<\/p>\n
In his address Chinunda said Dancing with Leadership using African Indigenous Wisdom highlights that everyone is a leader and that leaders are born from women.<\/p>\n
\u201cEveryone plays a leadership role in life. You can lead from anywhere. One can be a leader and follower for instance parade; you can also lead from behind just like herdsmen of cattle do and you can also lead from the middle as most organisations do by asking technocrats for advice,\u201d said Chinunda.<\/p>\n
He further said \u2018Grappling with Change: The Dream of Prosperity using African Wisdom\u2019 highlights issues of change and why it is necessary to change.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt urges Africans to change our mindsets and stop expecting aid. It encourages people to be doers and not just talkers. It advocates for Africans to use a mental map. The book uses the Ubunthu concept,\u201d he said<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
