Malawi Pool Association (Mapa) has no reason to remain thirsty after Carlsberg Malawi, through its Carlsberg Special Brew brand, unveiled a K3 million sponsorship for the national pool league.<\/p>\n
The unveiling took place at College of Medicine Sports Complex in Blantyre on Friday to boost Mapa, which has been without corporate sponsorship at the national level since 2013 when Lido Enterprises withdrew its support.<\/p>\n
Currently, the association self-sponsors the Blackball national pool tournament and banks on government to hold the Presidential Under-23 tournament.<\/p>\n
Carlsberg Malawi Senior Brands Manager-Alcoholics, Twikale Chirwa, said they were happy to be associated with pool.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe would like to reward young and vibrant consumers who prefer Special Brew. As management, we thought it wise to support pool because most people that play pool consume our brand and as such we would like to reward them for their loyalty,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Chirwa said they also wanted to give promising youngsters a platform to hone their skills.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe sponsorship is two-fold, we know that pool people support our brand in our beer selling outlets, as such, we expect an increase in talent and pool participation as well as an increase in our sales,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Mapa President, Chikondi Mbewe, said pool promotes Carlsberg brands in large quantities.<\/p>\n
\u201cSince we knocked on your doors more than two years ago requesting for sponsorship, we have been waiting in the wings of hope that one day you will remember us. Indeed, you have done that and it is a big day in pool circles.
