Boxer Brian Mwando will defend the national middleweight title for the first time when he faces challenger Charles Misanjo at Robins Park in Blantyre on July 2.<\/p>\n
Initially, the 12-round title contest was set for June 26 but Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board requested Mwando\u2019s camp, Alufandika Boxing Promotions, to shift the dates to avoid a clash of programmes.<\/p>\n
On the same day, there is another title fight involving Kudakwache Banda and light welterweight champion, Chikondi Makawa in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n
It will certainly be an emotional fight for Mwando who will be meeting Misanjo for the fourth time having lost the last two non-title fights on points.<\/p>\n
Mwando won the first fight when Misanjo retired in the fifth round. However, the last two fights went in favour of Misanjo with Mwando being banned following mayhem that ensued after the result was announced.<\/p>\n
Since returning from the suspension, Mwando has gone on a winning streak, including lifting the middleweight title after beating Felix Mwamaso.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is surely an emotional fight. Last time a lot of things happened and this time I have been working on my shortfalls. I promise that I will deliver positive results for my fans,\u201d said the boxer, who has 15 wins and six defeats in 21 fights.<\/p>\n
Misanjo said he was looking forward to the title fight.<\/p>\n
\u201cI know what sort of an opponent I will face. I know what I need to do to win the contest,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Misanjo,26, has fought 23 times, winning 15 fights and losing eight.<\/p>\n
MPBCB spokesperson, Frank Chibisa, applauded Mwando\u2019s management team for changing the dates to accommodate the other title fight in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
