31-year-old Chinese national is in police custody at Lingazi police in Lilongwe for being found in possession of protected animal species.<\/p>\n
The offence is contrary to Section 86 Sub-section 1 of the Parks and Wildlife Act.<\/p>\n
Confirming the arrest, deputy national spokesperson, Thomeck Nyaude identified the man as Wei Life from the Chinese city of Henan.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was arrested in Lilongwe after being found with live turtles which he wanted to export to Zambia for sale. Police report is indicating that the suspect together with his Malawian counterpart Samson Sogolani, 25, connived to export the Malawian turtles to Zambia,\u201d said Nyaude.<\/p>\n
Nyaude also said the Malawian national was working as a garden boy at the house of the suspect and he hails from Gumulira village in the area of Traditional Authority Chimutu in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n
According to Nyaude, officers from the department of parks and wildlife in Lilongwe received information that a Chinese man travelling using a vehicle registration number DA 5861 is doing businesses where he deals with protected species.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey reported the matter to police and officers made a follow-up where they managed to intercept the suspects before they departed to Zambia, during their search, they also found him with a passport and two driving licences one from Malawi and the other from Zambia,\u201d said Nyaude.<\/p>\n
The suspects have since been charged with the offence of being found in possession of protected animal species and will appear before court after the police have finalised their investigations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
