{"id":2606,"date":"2015-05-18T09:50:34","date_gmt":"2015-05-18T09:50:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=2606"},"modified":"2015-05-18T09:50:34","modified_gmt":"2015-05-18T09:50:34","slug":"theological-education-by-extension-in-malawi-graduates-165","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2015\/05\/18\/theological-education-by-extension-in-malawi-graduates-165\/","title":{"rendered":"Theological Education by Extension in Malawi graduates 165"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the theological education institutions in the country, Theological Education by Extension in Malawi (TEEM), has said it is waiting for government to look into its application before implementing a plan which will see the college offering courses by e-learning.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking when the college graduated 165 students in Zomba on Friday, TEEM Deputy Director Father Martin Kalimbe also said the institution, which offers a diploma course in theology through distance education, will in the near future start offering a bachelor\u2019s degree programme.<\/p>\n<p>The over 35-year old institution, TEEM, is a Christian training college that provides decentralised Biblical and theological education and was initially founded to train pastors but has since expanded and now include\u2019s courses in academic theology.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are at the moment, finalising our plans to develop and improve the national office here in Zomba. We are also at an advanced stage to offer our courses by e-learning here in Malawi. We are waiting for the outcome of the application to the National Council of Higher Education. And we are expanding our literature work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou will also be pleased to hear that we have actual plans to introduce a bachelor\u2019s degree programme. This will not happen this year but shortly afterwards. With all these changes, we are confident that our services are continuously, improving,\u201d Kalimbe said.<\/p>\n<p>He said TEEM has hugely invested in the delivery of services through the establishment of libraries in all centres, the employment of a sufficient number of full-time academic staff in all regions and the provision of quality theological books to the students.<\/p>\n<p>University of Malawi (Unima) Pro-Vice Chancellor, Alfred Mtenje, called on the graduating class to aim high.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne chooses the right path when they choose to be successful. The diplomas that you are getting today are just a step towards more things to come.
