{"id":25772,"date":"2016-06-08T12:36:50","date_gmt":"2016-06-08T10:36:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=25772"},"modified":"2016-06-08T12:36:50","modified_gmt":"2016-06-08T10:36:50","slug":"youth-offers-hockey-hope","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/06\/08\/youth-offers-hockey-hope\/","title":{"rendered":"Youth offers hockey hope"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hockey Association of Malawi (Ham) General Secretary, Chigo Thindwa, says the future of the sport looks bright following the introduction of youth competitions.<\/p>\n<p>Barely a day after concluding the Monolux Youth League at National Hockey Stadium next to Kamuzu Stadium over the weekend, Ham also staged a similar event at Central High School.<\/p>\n<p>Thindwa said more youth events were emerging.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs Ham, we are determined to make sure that hockey is revived in schools. We started last year and this year we have already done the Monulux Youth League. So to have another youth tournament at Central High is very pleasing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Thindwa said youth tournaments were vital as most senior players emerged from similar structures.<\/p>\n<p>Central High School Headmaster, Nishant Mishra, said it was part of their corporate social responsibility to help in the development of sports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are providing students an opportunity to gain exposure,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mishra said the tournament was also open to community sides in line with the institution\u2019s plans to make the sport accessible to all.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hockey Association of Malawi (Ham) General Secretary, Chigo Thindwa, says the future of the sport looks bright following the introduction of youth competitions.
