Africa’s number one team, South Africa, are playing test matches.

Kalua and Waya would have to wait a little longer for their future as Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) president Rosy Chinunda has admitted that they are undecided on whether to retain the coaches.

“We were busy with the Airtel Money National Trophy which has just ended. We wanted to conclude the competition, meet and consult on the next course of action. We will meet next week to discuss the matter,” she said.

Chinunda added that it was not automatic that they would maintain the two coaches, but the possibility of retaining them was high.

“We may maintain them because we have a limited number of qualified coaches. The team did well last year, especially at the Netball World Championship,” she said, adding that they expect to start preparations for Fast Five Netball Series soon.

“However, the only problem is that we are failing to break into the world’s top-four. I cannot pre-empt anything now because the committee has to decide.”

Chawinga-Kalua said she had not received any communication from Nam since the expiry of her contract.

“I hope there will be an opportunity for discussions so that we should know our targets and we should also tell them our suggestions,” she said.

Waya said she would comment after getting a contract offer.

“Right now I am just hearing from you. I cannot say anything,” she said.

Last year, the Queens fell to continental rivals, South Africa, during the Diamond Netball Challenge final in the Rainbow Nation.

The Queens also finished on position six at the World Netball Championship, but the only consolation was shooter Mwawi Kumwenda’s crowning as the best player at the tournament held in Australia.

Nam is also undecided on Under-21 national team coach ahead of next month’s Africa Junior Netball Championship in Botswana.
