{"id":25593,"date":"2016-06-03T11:59:43","date_gmt":"2016-06-03T09:59:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=25593"},"modified":"2016-06-03T11:59:43","modified_gmt":"2016-06-03T09:59:43","slug":"peter-mutharika-pledges-to-build-10000-houses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/06\/03\/peter-mutharika-pledges-to-build-10000-houses\/","title":{"rendered":"Peter Mutharika pledges to build 10,000 houses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Peter Mutharika has said government will build 10,000 institutional houses for officers working for the country\u2019s security agencies.<\/p>\n<p>Mutharika was reacting to a story published in <em>The Daily Times <\/em>of Tuesday titled \u2018Government Leaves Police Officers in \u2018Slums\u2019 that highlighted the plight of police officers living in institutional houses.<\/p>\n<p>During a tour of the Limbe Central Business District (CBD) in February, a year ago, President Mutharika pledged to the nation to renovate existing houses, including those belonging to Malawi Prison Service and Malawi Defence Force,<\/p>\n<p>He also committed to construct new ones for the officers.<\/p>\n<p>In his address at a developmental rally at Chitipa Airfield, Mutharika said the project to erect the houses, will commence in two weeks time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will right away start constructing 10, 000 houses for our officers with The Malawi Police Service, Malawi Prison Service and Malawi Defence Force. We have the money and everything is in place,\u201d assured Mutharika<\/p>\n<p>Housing woes in the police service have reached critical levels with officers living in police staff houses including those in Limbe where Mutharika inspected last year resolving to dig small pit latrines in front of the houses and are forced to partition rooms using mere clothes to create a semblance of privacy between parents and children, and or children of different sexes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Peter Mutharika has said government will build 10,000 institutional houses for officers working for the country\u2019s security agencies.
