The Malawi Defence Force (MDF) has commended the British government for responding to its request to have a Riffles Reconnaissance course (RECCE) for its personnel.<\/p>\n
MDF says the training will play a crucial role as it eyes to establish RECCE platoons in its all units.<\/p>\n
Speaking during the graduation ceremony of 47 MDF officers who underwent an intensive RECCE course in Salima, Commandant for Malawi Armed Forces College (Mafco) Brigadier General Swithun Mchungula, said the training was designed to secure teams who have the capability to locate the enemy and pass timely information for any operation.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are in a process to establish RECCE platoons in the Malawi Defence considering the critical importance of such skills in our operations so we couldn\u2019t look from anyway else but asked the British force to assist with such skills,\u201d said Mchungula.<\/p>\n
The commandant said currently, such skills are only imparted to militants who undergo peacekeeping training hence the need to build capacity in all battalions.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe shall slowly try to build that capacity in all units and as soon as we finish we shall have all RECCE experts in all our units,\u201d he said<\/p>\n
In his remarks, the Deputy British High Commissioner to Malawi Martin Scales who presided over the ceremony said besides imparting knowledge to the militants, the training has provided an opportunity to strengthen ties between the two nations and the security forces.<\/p>\n
Having completed the training, British team leader of the delegation Major Peter Howard Bull was optimistic that the militants will be able to execute their duties effectively.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe found the MDF troops to be enthusiastic, professional and we are very confident that they will pass on to their colleagues,\u201d Bull said.<\/p>\n
The Reconnaissance Course is a training that is offered to militants to equip them with skills in surveillance and target acquisition among others.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
