An inaugural national foot-golf championship\u2014a cross between football and golf\u2014 took place at Lilongwe Golf Club on Sunday with locals and foreigners showcasing their skill.<\/p>\n
Footgolf is played using golf rules with clubs being used as feet and a ball as football.<\/p>\n
Chigoli Football Academy of Lilongwe organised the competition which attracted players from countries such as South Africa.<\/p>\n
In a press release, the academy said players competed in categories for national, female and youth championship over back- nine holes.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe eventual winner, Chigoli founder Alex Scott, was part of the final pairing to play.<\/p>\n
Women\u2019s event winner was Caitlin McMillan, a former goalkeeper in the Women\u2019s Scotland Premier League. Federico Bizzaro won the youth category.<\/p>\n
Scott credited his victory to \u201cthe practice round held at Kamuzu Academy and his ability to use both feet.\u201d<\/p>\n
The event raised funds for the academy which nurtures talent through football education, character development and nutrition.<\/p>\n
Companies, organisations and individuals such as Mgoza Lodge, Kumbali Culture Village, Mama Mia\u2019s, Everest, Koko Bean Cafe, Lilongwe Wildlife Trust, Kiboko Lodge and Buchanan\u2019s Restaurant donated prizes for the event.<\/p>\n
Chigoli is a registered non-profit football development organisation based in Lilongwe. It currently trains 28 players and also involves 2000 in the capital city through competitions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
