{"id":25474,"date":"2016-06-02T11:13:55","date_gmt":"2016-06-02T09:13:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=25474"},"modified":"2016-06-02T11:13:55","modified_gmt":"2016-06-02T09:13:55","slug":"kasi-to-stage-play-at-madsoc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/06\/02\/kasi-to-stage-play-at-madsoc\/","title":{"rendered":"Kasi to stage play at Madsoc"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Khumbolao Arts and Sports Initiative (Kasi) will tomorrow night premiere their play titled <em>The Painter\u2019s Wife <\/em>at Madsoc Theatre in Lilongwe.<\/p>\n<p>The premiere of the play will also be spiced up by an art exhibition by visual artist Jethro Longwe.<\/p>\n<p>According to Kasi, the play has been organised as part of raising funds.<\/p>\n<p>Kasi is an organisation whose mission is to be a springboard for the youth that aims for greatness in the world of sports and arts.<\/p>\n<p>The proceeds will help Kasi to reach out to students in secondary schools and drill them in the world of art.<\/p>\n<p>The group\u2019s creative director Joel Mkandawire said all is set for the premiere of their production and called on people to come in large numbers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has taken us time to do this because we did not want to give people a half baked production. So, people should expect a magnificent production written by a professional writer and performed by professional actors,\u201d said Mkandawire.<\/p>\n<p>He said that to give people a basket full of arts, they also decided to stage the play alongside an arts exhibition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a full package because apart from enjoying the play, people will also have a chance to sample artworks during an exhibition by Jethro Longwe,\u201d said Mkandawire.<\/p>\n<p>He also said that they brought Longwe on board because they have used some of his artworks in The Painter\u2019s Wife.<\/p>\n<p>Mkandawire further said that the group was formed after noticing some gaps in learning, mentoring, exhibiting and performance opportunities for the youth in both primary and secondary schools.<\/p>\n<p>Written by a former Mzuzu University lecturer Mapopa Sanga and directed by Mkandawire, <em>The Painter\u2019s Wife <\/em>has a cast of eight.<\/p>\n<p>This is a romantic piece about a couple \u2013 Kingsley, who is a gifted painter and his wife Jannekke and tells the story of their day to day life and the challenges they face.<\/p>\n<p>It is a play that delves into a lot of issues where every Jim and jack is fighting for survival in these tough economic times.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the actors starring in the play are Aggie Nthenda, Tendai Mganga, Thoko Chimbali, Vivien Ngami, Diana Satha, Fred Kadzizi and Chifundo Manyera.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Khumbolao Arts and Sports Initiative (Kasi) will tomorrow night premiere their play titled The Painter\u2019s Wife at Madsoc Theatre in Lilongwe.
