Four regional defending champions in the Airtel Money national netball trophy face litmus test to qualify for the national finals of the county\u2019s richest competition.<\/p>\n
This weekend has attracted a total of 75 teams competing at regional finals of the Airtel Money trophy and they are battling for four slots at the national finals.<\/p>\n
Alliance Capital Stars in the South must overcome 18 other teams during the Airtel Money regional finals set for Blantyre Youth Centre.<\/p>\n
The situation is more dangerous in the Centre where 21 teams would challenge regional champions Green Eagles.<\/p>\n
Similarly, Mimosa from the North will wrestle against 17 other sides while the Eastern region champions Zomba Airwing Sisters will face opposition from 15 teams.<\/p>\n
The regional finals in the north got underway yesterday and they would conclude today while for the rest of the regions, the two-day finals would throw-off this morning.<\/p>\n
Alliance Capital Stars coach, Garvey Nyondo, said they were eying the regional championship to safeguard their route to national finals.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will not underrate any side. As defending champions the pressure is on us and we will work hard to reach the national finals,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Airwing coach, Baxter Muliya, conceded that it would not be easy for the rest of all the regional champions to defend their titles.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery team wants to reach the national finals so we need to fight tooth and nail to make it to the national finals,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) general secretary, Carol Bapu, said the national trophy had reached the most exciting stage.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe teams can\u2019t afford last minute slip ups otherwise they will risk their presence at national finals,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Airtel Money marketing manager, Masiye Mazaza, said they were set to dish out prizes to the winning teams and outstanding players.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will make our presence felt during the regional finals. Both winning teams and excellent players would be decorated,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The regional champions will pocket K500,000 with the runners-up receiving K300,000 while the number three TEAM would receive K200,000.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
