{"id":25265,"date":"2016-05-30T11:04:46","date_gmt":"2016-05-30T09:04:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=25265"},"modified":"2016-05-30T11:04:46","modified_gmt":"2016-05-30T09:04:46","slug":"standard-bank-donates-k12-5m-to-dapp-colleges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/05\/30\/standard-bank-donates-k12-5m-to-dapp-colleges\/","title":{"rendered":"Standard Bank donates K12.5m to Dapp Colleges"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Standard Bank h a s donated K12.5 million to Development Aid from People to People to People (Dapp) towards the refurbishment of its Dowa and Blantyre teachers training colleges.<\/p>\n<p>The bank provided the donation to cater for the purchase of building materials, installation and for labour.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on Friday during the handover ceremony at Dowa campus, Standard Bank\u2019s chief finance officer, Temwani Simwaka, said the bank was pleased to partner Dapp as it recognise the organisation\u2019s vital role in providing vocational education and skills development to the youth of Malawi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are providing the K12.5 million for refurbishment of the colleges to help provide conducive environment for the delivery of classes and practical work at Dapp colleges. The colleges have been providing alternative gateway to professional career development and education for thousands of young Malawians,\u201d said Simwaka.<\/p>\n<p>Simwaka said the donation was also in line with bank\u2019s continued support towards the education sector as it believes education is a backbone of country\u2019s economic growth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe partnership with DAPP is a continuation of Standard Banks continuation of contribution to the growth of the country through support of the education sector. We are a bank that believes that education is a catalyst for economic growth we will therefore continue working closely with private and public partners in the education sector,\u201d said Simwaka.<\/p>\n<p>Dapp\u2019s country director Lisbeth Thomsen thanked the bank for the support saying it demonstrates that private sector is part of development.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDapp Malawi is very grateful for the donation as it demonstrates that private sector is also committed to be part of development by contribution to teacher training in the country, \u201csaid Thomsen.<\/p>\n<p>Thomsen said Dapp Teacher Training Colleges complement government efforts in improving teacher-pupil ratio especially in rural areas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe would like to fill the gaps in the education sectors by training more primary school teachers and improve quality education in order that we have a brighter future for Malawi,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Dapp Dowa College principal, Blessings Kambew,a said the institution which was opened in 2010, currently has 128 students.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Standard Bank h a s donated K12.5 million to Development Aid from People to People to People (Dapp) towards the refurbishment of its Dowa and Blantyre teachers training colleges.
