The Media Institute of Southern Africa, Malawi Chapter has emphasised on the need for the youth in the country to embrace entrepreneurship skills if current high unemployment rates are to drop.<\/p>\n
Chairperson for the chapter Thom Khanje said this during a graduation ceremony of 14 youths from Ace College of Media and Design.<\/p>\n
Khanje said current trends in the country\u2019s media industry demand creativity and entrepreneurial skills among young people.<\/p>\n
He said the trends also provide an opportunity for entrepreneurial minds to satisfy the growing and ever changing demands of consumers.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think we have to accept that the media landscape in the country has evolved, so there is need for the industry to be creative in coming up with programme designs that best meets this growing demand, so it has been my plea to the new graduates to not only seek employment from elsewhere but also explore the possibilities of venturing into business,\u201d said Khanje.<\/p>\n
He also hailed the institution for introducing designing and media related courses to young people saying designing remain crucial to the development of content on local media.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would like to congratulate management of Ace College for introducing these courses which are very critical to the development of the country\u2019s media, and I am sure that the courses have opened various entrepreneurial opportunities to young people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Ace college board chairperson, Donasius Pathera said the country\u2019s television boom provides for opportunities to many young people who venture into graphic, multimedia arts and media related courses.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis boom in television stations is a welcome development as it means more people will be needed to design programs for these stations so as an institution we are committed to ensure quality learning as a means to quality content on our local stations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Ace college was instituted in 2013 and offers graphic design, motion graphics, web design, 3D cartoon animation and mass communication among various media related courses.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
