For the first time in the history of Nankhaka Stadium, the round-of-16 Presidential Cup match between Nyasa Big Bullets and hosts, Blue Eagles, grossed K8.1 million in gate revenue.<\/p>\n
Eagles and Bullets each earned K1.6 million, whereas the rest was shared among stakeholders.<\/p>\n
Eagles General Manager, Gabriel Chirwa, attributed the record gate revenue to tight security.<\/p>\n
\u201cSecurity was tight and there was no room for fraud. On top of tight security, I think fans turned up in large numbers considering the performance of the two teams,\u201d Chirwa said.<\/p>\n
Bullets second vice-chairperson, Austin Kasito, was also satisfied with the gate proceeds.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think the gate proceeds reflect the huge turnup and we are really satisfied,\u201d Kasito said.<\/p>\n
Football Association of Malawi (Fam) Competitions Committee member, Daud Suleman, also attributed the record gate revenue to team-work.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll the stakeholders were working for the good of the game and this is encouraging.<\/p>\n
In my view, the gates were managed well and security also did their job well,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Bullets won 4-2 on post-match penalties when goalkeeper Ernest Kakhobwe saved three penalties for Eagles. Muhammad Sulumba, Chiukepo Msowoya, Yamikani Fodya, Pilirani Zonda and Bashir Maunde netted spot-kicks for Bullets, whereas Osward Maonga, Gilbert Chirwa, Victor Nyirenda and Gregory Nachipo converted their penalties.<\/p>\n
Wister Phiri, John Malidadi Jnr and Enock Likoswe had their spot-kicks saved by the in-form Bullets keeper. Ackim Kazombo missed his spot-kick.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, Eagles goalkeeper Chakonda Majanga stopped Mike Mkwate and John Lanjesi\u2019s penalties, whereas Mcfarlen Ngwira blasted his penalty over the bar.<\/p>\n
