Malawi Schools Sports Association (Massa) is impressed with the talent on display in the ongoing Airtel Rising Stars Under-17 football competition.<\/p>\n
The competition targets secondary school boys and girls with the aim of unearthing talent.<\/p>\n
In Blantyre Urban, Namalimwe defeated Kalibu Academy 4-0 on post-match penalties in the district finals this past weekend to qualify for the divisional finals.<\/p>\n
Namalimwe also did well in women\u2019s football by beating Kalibu Academy again 1-0 to qualify for the divisional finals.<\/p>\n
Massa Chairperson for Blantyre Urban, Ignasio Libwalo, said they were impressed with the progress of this year\u2019s competition.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have seen more boys and girls taking advantage of the platform we have provided to expose their talent. The quality of football in both the boys\u2019 and girls\u2019 competition was impressive. We look forward to seeing more talent during the divisional finals,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Libwalo added that Massa had measures to ensure that the talent is never lost.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe keep a database of the players and follow their progress. The best players are sent to academies within the district where their talent is nurtured. Over the years, some of the players have even made it to the junior national teams,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s competition was sponsored at K79.3 million and 1,780 schools competed.<\/p>\n
The national champions would get K2 million with the runners-up getting K1.5 million. The third-placed team would get K1.2 million.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
