Government has reiterated its commitment to advance trade in the country by ensuring that products and services conform to international standards.<\/p>\n
Minister of Industry, Trade and Tourism, Joseph Mwanamvekha, made the remarks on Thursday in Blantyre as he was presiding over the handover ceremony of a modern laboratory to be used by the Malawi Burea of Standards (MBS) for calibrating heavy mass and large volume instruments.<\/p>\n
The Government of Norway made the donation to the Malawi Bureau of Standards on the occasion to mark the World Metrology Day.<\/p>\n
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Mwanamvekha hailed the Norwegian Government for the donation saying standardisation is critical to the success of business in any country.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want people in the country to get value for their money so that when they buy products, they should get the correct quantity and volume. This is important because it creates trust and confidence among the consumers. Even when sending products to international markets, clients do not doubt the products once they realise you have this equipment because there is conformity to the international standards,\u201d stated Mwanamvekha.<\/p>\n
Norwegian Ambassador to Malawi, Kikkan Haugen, said the ceremony was an important opportunity for Norway to underscore its commitment towards accelerating business growth in Malawi.<\/p>\n
Haugen further added that the move is significant as it marks the longstanding cooperation between Norway and Malawi in the goal to achieve economic and social development.<\/p>\n
