TNM Super League re-entrants, Karonga United, have given up on the prospects of using Nthalire Stadium as their home-ground.<\/p>\n
Karonga Chairperson, Dikani Chipanga, said the stadium does not have toilets, dressing rooms and a perimeter fence.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have been waiting for Sulom [Super League of Malawi] officials to inspect it and advise us on the way forward. We would have managed to fix the problems that are there in just a month,\u201d Chipanga explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe will be having a stadium at Karonga Boma soon. Construction work is progressing well and we are sure that by the end of the first round of the league, the stadium will be ready for use.\u201d<\/p>\n
Karonga coach Kondwani Mwalweni insisted that Nthalire was, with minor renovations, capable of hosting Super League matches.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is not very different from Mzuzu Stadium. We could have played a few games there because Mzuzu is a long way from our base in Karonga,\u201d Mwalweni said.<\/p>\n
Sulom General Secretary, Williams Banda, said his body was in touch with Chipanga.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe do not deal with coaches. The club\u2019s chairman knows what we told him,\u201d he said without elaborating.<\/p>\n
Mzuzu Stadium remains the only venue for Super League matches in the Northern Region, with Moyale Barracks and Mzuni also using it as their home-ground.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
