Association of Persons with Albinism in Malawi (Apam) has hailed the Super League of Malawi (Sulom) for joining calls to end attacks on people with albinism.<\/p>\n
During TNM Super League matches played over the weekend, a minute of silence was observed in honour of people with albinism, who have been victimised or killed.<\/p>\n
A p am Executive Committee Member, Ian Simbota, speaking after a match between Nyasa Big Bullets and Mzuni FC on Saturday at Kamuzu Stadium, said they were delighted with Sulom\u2019s initiative.<\/p>\n
\u201cA lot of people turned up for the match and we have the confidence that they will help us spread the message to end the attacks on people with albinism. Sulom did the right thing to use the matches to spread messages. We are created equally. We are all images of God,\u201d said Simbota after Bullets defeated Mzuni 2-0 through Bashir Maunde and Henry Kabichi\u2019s goals.<\/p>\n
Simbota asked supporters to join the campaign and report suspects to the police.<\/p>\n
Sulom, in a pres s statement issued on Monday, expressed its concern over the rampant rise of the victimisation of people with albinism.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo this effect, we are taking a bold step to denounce and condemn these barbaric acts and we are standing strong with our colleagues of the Association of Persons with Albinism in Malawi (Apam) in the fight against the abductions, killings and exhumation of remains of persons with albinism,\u201d reads part of Sulom\u2019s statement signed by its General Secretary, Williams Banda.<\/p>\n
Recent reports indicate that 28 graveyards have been tampered and 14 people living with albinism were reportedly kidnapped while three were missing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
