After successfully hosting the Lilongwe Shorts Film Festival last weekend at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe which among others saw film makers being decorated with awards, Lake of Stars Festival organisers come down to Blantyre with a launch to be held at Mibawa Caf\u00e9 tonight.<\/p>\n
The launch comes in following the announcement by the organisers that they will be holding launch parties in the three cities of Mzuzu, Lilongwe and Blantyre.<\/p>\n
The event in Blantyre wraps up these month-long series of parties which are designed to officially launch this year\u2019s festival, which takes place on September 25-27 at Sunbird Nkopola in Mangochi.<\/p>\n
The event will see performances from several artists, including Agorosso, who is also scheduled to perform in Hungary later this month.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am excited to perform at the launch and I can\u2019t wait to perform,\u201d said the musician, who also performed at the same venue last month with a Germany artist Mark Klause.<\/p>\n
According to a press statement from Lake of Stars Festival organisers, other artists performing at the event which is also part of bringing awareness to the people about the festival include Music Malawi (Muma) Award winner Dan Lufani and Bucci.<\/p>\n
\u201cFollowing the live performances, DJ Mr 265 will keep the party going to the small hours. And guests at the event will have the chance to win tickets to this year\u2019s Lake of Stars Festival,\u201d reads the press statement.<\/p>\n
Dan Lufani famed for the renditions \u2018Holy Ghost Fire,\u2019 and \u2018Shupie,\u2019 said he is ready for the launch and that he has been practicing the whole week.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am ready and I am happy to perform at the launch. As an artist I always value such concerts so people should come and enjoy my songs,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Lake of Stars Founder Will Jameson said recently that they are set for this year\u2019s festival and that they are bringing on board a big line up of artists both local and international.<\/p>\n
The current lineup of artists already confirmed for the festival include locals Gwamba, Lulu, Danny Kalima popularly known as Sirius, Dan Lu, Bucci, Menes La Plume and George Kalukusha plus international talent from 2014 UK Mercury Prize award winners Young Fathers and Nigerian artist Ric Hassani.<\/p>\n
The organisers are bubbling with smiles and are looking forward to the best during the Blantyre launch having excelled with their newest project Lilongwe Shorts Film Festival.<\/p>\n
More than 50 short films from across the world were shown over the course of the festival, with 20 awards given out to participating films and directors, including 4 awards for Malawian director Mwizalero Nyirenda.<\/p>\n
Jameson added that the months of April and May have been a busy time for them as they have been hosting launch parties starting off in Mzuzu then Lilongwe and now Blantyre.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have announced a new partnership with Airtel, who I am delighted to share our vision for a flourishing creative sector and will be supporting Lake of Stars Festival and all of our associated events,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Jameson also said that they have another exciting new project that they are about to launch in partnership with Unicef.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is more to come and people should just be on the lookout. We are also working with the Mount Mulanje Porters race on July 11,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Lake of Stars Festival has stood out as one of the hottest festivals attracting interest from both local and foreigners.
