{"id":24726,"date":"2016-05-21T08:19:23","date_gmt":"2016-05-21T06:19:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=24726"},"modified":"2016-05-21T08:19:23","modified_gmt":"2016-05-21T06:19:23","slug":"officials-summoned-over-charity-shield-saga","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/05\/21\/officials-summoned-over-charity-shield-saga\/","title":{"rendered":"Officials summoned over Charity Shield saga"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has set up a commission of inquiry into the Chifundo Charity Shield gate-ticketing fraud at Civo Stadium last month.<\/p>\n<p>The commission has since summoned all the individuals at the centre of the gate ticketing mess. However, such commissions have over the years proved to be a mere face-saver.<\/p>\n<p>Fam Executive Committee Member, Rashid Ntelera, Second Vice-President, Othaniel Hara and Jabba Alide are some members of the commission.<\/p>\n<p>A source at Fam confirmed this week that the commission asked the association\u2019s Marketing and Commercial Director, Limbani Matola, Central Region Football Association (CRFA) Treasurer, Pius Likagwa and the police, among others, to submit their reports.<\/p>\n<p>According to the source, more people mentioned in the police report will also be summoned to clarify issues that led to the controversies of the Charity Shield involving Nyasa Big Bullets and Be Forward Wanderers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe asked them to submit their reports in writing and all the people complied. Starting next week, we will be summoning them one by one to explain on some of the anomalies the commission has noted,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Investigations into the charity shield fraud stalled because Hara was attending a Fifa Congress in Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>Fam General Secretary, Sugzo Nyirenda, confirmed on Thursday that the commission had set the ball rolling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am just a secretariat member, so the best person to comment is the president. The commission will submit its findings at the next executive committee meeting in August. It is hoped that the findings would help people learn what happened,\u201d Nyirenda explained.<\/p>\n<p>A police preliminary report released a few days after the game implicated some Fam and Central Region Football Association (CRFA) officials.<\/p>\n<p>Some counterfeit tickets were sold at the stadium, raising speculation match-day tickets were tampered with.<\/p>\n<p>In conclusion, the report attributed the fraud to Fam\u2019s failure to follow what was agreed during a pre-match meeting by, among others, paying cash to stewards, cashiers and Red Cross officials.<\/p>\n<p>Fam released a press statement after the incident that the association printed 16,150 tickets for the game of which 10,788 people accessed the stadium using official receipts, translating to K11, 477,000 in gate revenue.<\/p>\n<p>Bullets won the match 2-0 with goals from Mohammad Sulumba and Chiukepo Msowoya.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Football Association of Malawi (Fam) has set up a commission of inquiry into the Chifundo Charity Shield gate-ticketing fraud at Civo Stadium last month.
