{"id":24674,"date":"2016-05-20T12:26:30","date_gmt":"2016-05-20T10:26:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.times.mw\/?p=24674"},"modified":"2016-05-20T12:26:30","modified_gmt":"2016-05-20T10:26:30","slug":"george-chaponda-appointed-leader-of-the-house","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archive.times.mw\/index.php\/2016\/05\/20\/george-chaponda-appointed-leader-of-the-house\/","title":{"rendered":"George Chaponda appointed Leader of the House"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President Peter Mutharika has appointed vice president of the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and Minister of Agriculture George Chaponda as Leader of The House, effective May 19<\/p>\n<p>He takes over from Foreign Affairs Minister Francis Kasaila.<\/p>\n<p>According to a press statement released on Thursday and signed by the press secretary to the president, Mgeme Kalilani, the change has been made to allow Kasaila properly execute his duties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe appointment has been necessitated by the recent appointment of Hon. Kasaila as Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Corporation. It is necessary to allow him to effectively attend to Malawi\u2019s international affairs which often demand a lot of travelling out of the country,\u201d reads part of the statement.<\/p>\n<p>In the statement, Mutharika further thanks Kasaila for performing well as Leader of the House during his term. He further wishes Chaponda well as he takes the seat in Parliament.<\/p>\n<p>Chaponda was once leader of government during late Bingu\u2019s regime.
